This doesn't make sense - it is telling you that the 64 bit x libraries are
incompatible implying that you are trying to build a 32 bit executable. I'm
not sure how this is even possible on an itanium machine.

Are you sure:

1) Your machine is a Itanium SGI Altix?

2) You have the 64 bit Itanium intel compilers installed.

3) You really created config.h using ./configure sgi_altix

4) Your amber9 directory was clean before you started compiling?

5) You didn't do any other modifications to config.h like telling it to use
gcc for xleap configuration with the -m32 flag for example.

I would do the following.

1) Delete your current amber9 directory

2) create a new amber9 directory by untarring the amber9.tgz file from the
cdrom.

3) Apply bugfix.all from the amber website

4) cd $AMBERHOME/src/

5) ./configure sgi_altix

6) make

And see if it then works - do NOT modify anything in config.h.

All the best
Ross
