Most linuxes and other free unixes come with the
useful 'locate' command, which scans a list of all
files on the system (which is refreshed in the early
hours). Here's how I narrowed it down on a "Compaq
Tru64 UNIX" system (on linux the 1st version showed
it):
% locate cpp
% locate cpp | grep bin
% locate cpp | grep bin | egrep -v local
