Are you sure that g95 is working OK? Can you compile test fortran programs
with it?

These message strongly suggest that g95 is not really working. Usually, when
new2oldparm fails to compile, it is because of a problem with the compiler,
not with Amber code. (We deliberately start with a very small and simple
program for just this reason.)
I've never installed the Irix MIPS version of g95, so I can't offer any
detailed help...maybe someone on the list has that experience. I assume(?)
that you don't have access to the SGI f90 compiler -- that is what we usually
use for SGI MIPS machines.
