It is not the binaries you need, it is the development libraries. What
flavour of linux are you using?
 
Go to the original installation CD's and look for something along the lines
of XFree86-devel or X11-devel or xorg-devel this is what needs to be
installed. If you are using Fedora then you can use Yum to do this. If you
are using redhat then you can do it with RPM. With Suse I think you can use
YAST to add extra packages.

I had XFree86 version 4.2.0 on my computer at the time of the compilation.
What other binaries are required for a complete compilation?

You probably don't have the X11 development libraries installed.
XFree86-devel (or xorg-devel in fedora). You need to install the rpm for
this since it contains the x11 development libraries and headers that you
need for xleap.
