Hi Frank,

You could use some morphing programs to create an ' artist impression '
of the transformation. PovRay (perhaps in combination with
SwissPDBViewer to generate the .pov files) could be of use.
I know, there is a program called Xmorph, but I
remember having seen a program that is more dedicated to molecules (but
I don't know the location anymore, maybe it was a program by Gerard
Kleywegt??? But if I remember correctly you also needed the intermediate
stages of the opening of the lid).
The morphing program can not follow a path, thus it would
end up fading the loop in the closed conformation into the open form,
but without following a path.. Offcourse it would be more realistic to
have the intermediate frames and generate a movie....
