Carnal can between separate STREAMs. I believe it may be also
possible if the snapshots are in the same mdcrd file or STREAM;
you would need to load as STATIC; per the manual,

  STATIC statid ...; STATIC files are read at the beginning and
    remain in memory .... Each static set in an id can be
    referenced by 'id%1', 'id%2' etc.
