Accessing Your Data on the Network Drive

If you saved your CD, fluorometer, or calorimeter data on the network J: drive, you can access it from a remote computer as follows. Please note that the drive migrated to a different server as of 1/13/11. Updated instructions are listed below.
From a Windows machine:
  • Click Start, then Run
  • Type \\mako-smb.mc.vanderbilt.edu\csbsharedinstr
  • Click OK.
  • It should prompt you to sign in. Type VANDERBILT\yourVUnetID
  • Enter your e-password.
  • Double click on the Data folder.
  • You should see folders for the CD, DSC, Fluoromax and ITC.
From a Mac:
  • From the Finder menu, click Go, then Connect to Server
  • It should prompt you for the Server Address. Type smb://mako-smb.mc.vanderbilt.edu/csbsharedinstr
  • Click Connect.
  • It should prompt you for your VUnetID and e-password.
  • Double click on the Data folder.
  • You should see folders for the CD, DSC, Fluoromax and ITC.
From a Linux machine:
  • The easiest way to access it is through the file manager in Gnome:
    • Click Places, then Connect to Server
      • server: mako-smb.mc.vanderbilt.edu
      • share: csbsharedinstr
      • user: yourVUnetID
      • domain: VANDERBILT
    • Click Connect.
    • A window with the contents of your linux home dir may popup, but just close that and click on the new icon for the share on the desktop and it will ask you for your e-password.

  • If you're using KDE, then just use the file browser (konqueror or dolphin, e.g. with KDE v4+):
    • Go to \\mako-smb.mc.vanderbilt.edu\csbsharedinstr
    • Type VANDERBILT\yourVUnetID
    • Enter your e-password.

  • It's also possible to mount the share into the filesystem for access via a linux terminal. For more information, see: Computational Resource TWiki page and adapt to the server and share above.
