Lauren Jackson named Pew Scholar

Congratulations to CSB faculty member Lauren Jackson on being named a 2016 Pew Scholar by The Pew Charitable Trusts. Lauren received the honor for her work in cell and structural biology the biomedical sciences.

Her research focuses on the molecular systems that direct the trafficking of cargo such as proteins and fatty lipid molecules around the inside of a cell. Vesicles covered with coat proteins carry out the trafficking and determine where they will be taken. Lauren investigates the lesser-known coat proteins to determine how they assemble, recognize cargo and direct the material to the correct destination, which could lead to novel treatments for neurodegenerative and neurological disorders as they relate to molecule trafficking in nerve cells.

Lauren will receive four years of flexible funding to pursue research and becomes part of a committed community of scientists dedicated to collaboration and mentorship.
