Hydrogen Bond Network in Calcium-Binding Loops of Calmodulin

Hydrogen bond network in calcium binding loops. The calcium-binding loop of the first EF-hand of calmodulin is used to illustrate the interconnected network of hydrogen bonds that stabilizes the calcium binding loop. Calcium ligands are colored dark grey. Atoms involved in hydrogen bonds with the sidechain oxygens of the bidentate ligand Glu31 are colored black. Calcium ligation is indicated with grey dotted lines. Interresidue hydrogen bonds are indicated with black dotted lines. The molecular structure was rendered in Insight (MSI, San Diego) using PDB coordinates 1CLL.
